| Discipline | Scope | Governing standards |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | Material selection, circuit safety | UL 508A, IEC 61131-2, AEC-Q (if automotive) |
| Mechanical | Enclosure, IP, vibration, cooling | IEC 60068 (environmental), IP code (IEC 60529) |
| EMC / LVD | Interference, electrical safety | IEC 61000 series, CE (EMC directive, LVD) |
| Test & Validation | Reliability, type tests | IEC 61131-2, UL 508A (temperature/endurance) |
𝄞 Recognized / Listed component rule (UL 508A)
UL 508A explicitly requires panel builders to use UL Listed or Recognized components. The logic: UL 508A evaluates assembly workmanship and system matching. It assumes that if each part is qualified (compliant with UL 508), and assembly meets规范 (creepage, wire gauge, thermal layout), system safety is under control.
Analogy: Like building a house. If each brick (component) is qualified (UL 508) and the construction team follows drawings (UL 508A), the finished house (control panel) is safe.
𝄽 What if non-UL 508 parts are used?
certification failure UL field inspector will issue a non-conformance. Either replace with compliant parts, or the affected section is not covered by the certification.
restricted use ("yellow card") In some cases, a restrictive label is attached. The panel may only be used under specific conditions, commercially disadvantageous.
